Application of Kareara, Maori*

Identity.

Name: Maori Kareara

Gender: female

Day of Birth: 03/03

Age: 16

Height: 5'6"

Weight: 135 lb.

Class: 4A/4B

Persona.

Casual Appearance: Maori has a slender and willowy build from her sickly status as a young child. While she is the picture of health present day - and certainly has the meat on her bones to fill out a B-cup - that sort of past leaves its mark on a person. Her skin is soft, smooth, perhaps a bit paler than most but the glow of life is strong and adds a darker note to her flesh. Her eyes are a burning amber, flecked through with dashes of paler orange and bronzy orange to make her eyes almost appear on fire. Her hair is long and dark, bordering on black even, but the copper streaks which flash in certain light hold it at a dark brunette. Maori wears her bangs parted from the right toward the left and they are cut to hang across her forehead. However, over the months since her last hair cut they have gown out and said bangs now frustratingly sit directly in her line of vision. So, she is usually seen brushing her hair out of her eyes. Clothes-wise, she really doesn't have a specific style. She simply wears whatever fits her mood. As for jewelry, Maori always wears a small pair of diamond studs which were a gift from her brother and father, a hoop earring in her left cartilage, and a silver bracelet on her right wrist. The bracelet is simple, a small chain, but the crystalline arrow charm on it means more to her than words could ever explain. It was a gift from her mother, enough said.

Personality: Okay, so maybe she isn't the most sociable of all people, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's a bad person right? Maori grew up practically raising herself and her younger brother so she's pretty self-sufficient, but like all girls her age she longs for someone who will provide for her instead of the other way around. She wants that knight in shining armor. Unfortunately she's too much of a chicken to go get him. Maori would rather sit beneath a nice tree and dive into the fantasy world of whatever book she happens to be reading than deal with anything in her real life. School is easy enough, as she's a smart girl all A's in fact, but when it comes to dealing with other people? She's a gonner. Maori is quiet, shy..delicate. The type of girl that needs to be held and respected at the same time. Even though she doesn't like talking with people, and is easily overwhelmed by too much emotion, doesn't mean she can't try every once in a while. It just means she'll be much more flighty and distrustful than a normal person should be. She goes back and forth between showing too much emotion, and not showing enough.

Background.

Family: Maori comes from a rich family on her mother's side and is able to live comfortably without worrying for future expenses. Her only remaining relatives - that she knows of anyhow - are her grandparents on her mother's side.

Hometown: Burns, Wyoming

Past: Maori grew up in America, born and raised in the north west. Wyoming was her home since the day she had been born, or so she thought. In truth, her family had been moved there about a year after her birth due to her father's shady dealings with even shadier people. His drug abuse led to the entire family's upheaval. For 10 years, all was well. Maori had a baby brother, Derick, and their beef ranch was very successful. Even her father seemed to be shaping up. But nothing lasts forever....

She would never forget the day she came home late from a movie, the red and blue lights flashing in the evening darkness. Glass was everywhere, like a scene from some tragedy. Her father was crying, her brother was snuggled under a blanket, sippy-cup in hand and held tightly in the arms of a strange woman. She wore the uniform of an ambulance driver, though Maori wouldn't see that until after the scarlet stains had left her vision. It's amazing to see exactly how much blood is inside a human body, and the sight of her mother lying in a lake of her own blood scarred the young child forever, leaving her a ghostly husk of the girl she had once been.

Months passed and things settled into some semblance of a routine. Maori went to school, 6 year old Derick went to his first year of kindergarten, and her father... Well he seemed to simply fade away, melding himself into the dull, gray background. For the most part, Maori took care of herself and Derick. Making sure they both got to school on time, making sure they both ate good and healthy meals. At age 12, she was cooking steaks and other sorts of dishes one shouldn't even think of preparing until much older. But she didn't have time to age, she didn't have time for a childhood. All in a few short days, Maori was forced to grow up and become the mother, friend, and caretaker Derick had lost.

When Maori was 14, disaster struck again. It seemed like her father's past refused to loosen its hold on the man and another message was sent. This time, they took Derick. Maori refused to eat, refused to sleep, or even move from the chair which sat in the corner of her room. When she did move it was in a fit of rage during which she would destroy anything within reach. When she did sleep it was because her body forced her to. She was a wreck, and then came the news that this was all because of the man she called her father. He came clean to her, saying over and over again how sorry he was. How badly he wished he could take it all back and make everything right again. Over and over again, Maori turned away, sickened at the groveling creature her hero had become.

At the end of her freshman year, Maori was sent to live with her grandparents in Japan. Her father said it was just too dangerous for her to be around him anymore. Remembering bits and pieces of what Japanese her mother had spoken when she was little, the teen picked up the language quickly enough and was enrolled in school. Ah school, the one thing she dreaded most, having to face hundreds of students who didn't give a damn about who she was or where she came from except to use it as gossip fodder. Joy. She would start her first year in Japan as a foreigner with no friends, and no family she would speak of, and with the heavy words of a letter of apology from some American hospital telling her that a Mr. Daniel Kareara had been found stabbed to death in a Wal-mart parking lot.

Additional Notes: Maori is extremely talented at piano and singing. She also speaks English, Japanese, Spanish, and a little Latin.
